CCEC Directors Alvin West, Anthony Nelson and Doug Fulcher were re-elected to their terms during action taken by the board at its May 18 meeting.
When directors up for re-election are unopposed, the board secretary casts a single vote at the co-op’s annual meeting, but because of the COVID-19 outbreak and Gov. Roy Cooper’s “stay home” order, this year’s meeting has been postponed.
The CCEC Credentials and Election Committee met by phone conference on the evening of May 5 and approved by consensus a change in the bylaws to address the election of directors and the postponement of the co-op’s annual meeting, which was originally scheduled for May 7.
“Member participation in the election process and the annual meeting is a cornerstone of our organization,” said CEO Jake Joplin. “The safety of the public, our staff and directors is paramount as well."
Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, electric cooperatives across the United States faced similar issues with annual meetings and board elections. CCEC hopes to hold the annual meeting later this year. Members will be advised of the new date and location as soon as it is determined.
The board also elected officers for 2020-21 at its May meeting. They are: president, Ben Ball; vice-president, Anthony Nelson; secretary, Deloria Irby; assistant secretary, Amy Lock; treasurer, Alvin West; assistant treasurer, Thom Styron.
