Wondering whether CCEC’s new All-Energy Time-of-Use (TOU) Rate could be a good fit for your household? Our new online TOU calculator makes it easy to compare your current electricity costs with what you could pay under the new rate.
How to Use the TOU Calculator
1. Click here to access the calculator.
2. Enter your monthly energy usage. You can find your monthly kWh usage on your CCEC bill or PowerPay24. You can also choose to select your home size if you do not know your monthly energy usage.
3. Select your usage profile using the guidelines at the top of the page.
4. Select the season. Choose Summer or Winter to make sure the calculator uses the correct rates and time periods for your estimate.
5. Choose which appliances or activities you can shift to an off-peak time.
The calculator allows you to see how your bill could change depending on when you use electricity. Think about your household’s daily routine:
- When do you typically run the dishwasher?
- When do you do laundry?
- When does your HVAC work the hardest?
- When do you charge an electric vehicle?
- When do you use your electric water heater?
The more electricity you can shift to off-peak hours, the greater the potential benefit of a TOU rate.
6. Compare the results
The calculator will show you an estimated bill based on your usage selections and compare it to the standard residential rate. Try different scenarios to see what happens when you shift some of your electricity use away from on-peak hours. This can help you determine whether your household has enough flexibility to make a TOU rate work for you.
Small Changes Can Make a Difference
You don’t have to completely change your daily routine to take advantage of time-of-use pricing. Even shifting a few energy-intensive activities can make a difference. For example, you might:
- Run the dishwasher after the on-peak period.
- Do laundry during off-peak hours.
- Schedule your electric vehicle to charge overnight.
- Use smart thermostats or timers to manage heating and cooling.
- Delay other flexible electric loads until off-peak hours.
Remember! The Calculator Is an Estimate
The TOU Calculator is a tool to help you explore your options. Your actual bill will depend on your actual electricity use. The best way to use the calculator is to try several different scenarios based on your household’s typical routine.
