Thinking about a home improvement project this summer? Whether you’re adding a new workshop, installing a pool, upgrading your HVAC system, or building an addition, it’s important to contact CCEC early in the process.
Many projects impact your electric service more than you might expect. Reaching out to your co-op before work begins can help you avoid delays, ensure your project meets inspection requirements, and keep everyone safe.
Which Projects Should You Call About?
You should contact the co-op if your plans include:
- Building a new home, garage, or outbuilding
- Adding on to your home or finishing a room
- Installing a pool, hot tub, or irrigation system
- Upgrading or replacing your HVAC system
- Adding large equipment like generators or EV chargers
- Adding solar panels
- Moving your electric panel or meter
- Clearing land near power lines
Even smaller projects can have electrical implications, so when in doubt, it’s always best to check with the co-op before beginning your project. And, remember, in addition to contacting us, if your project involves digging, call 811 so underground utility lines can be located. Be sure to call at least three days before beginning your project.
Understanding Inspection Requirements
In most cases, electrical work must be inspected and approved before service can be connected or modified. Local codes require that a licensed electrician complete the work and that it passes inspection by the appropriate authority. Once approved, the co-op can safely energize your service. Skipping this step, or waiting until the last minute, can lead to unnecessary delays in your project timeline.
Why Contact CCEC Early?
Getting the co-op involved early allows us to:
- Determine if your current service can handle additional load
- Identify any needed upgrades or changes
- Coordinate meter installation or relocation
- Ensure proper clearances from power lines and equipment
- Help you avoid costly rework or safety hazards
Early communication helps prevent surprises and keeps your project moving forward smoothly.
