The cooperative is proud to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation to bring the Community Canopy Project to our members—an opportunity to plant the right tree in the right place while saving energy and enhancing your property.
Through this program, members can purchase high-quality, 3–5-gallon native trees at a reduced cost. Available varieties include Sweetbay Magnolia, Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Little Gem Magnolia, and Persimmon—each selected for its beauty, adaptability, and ability to provide natural shade.

Strategically planted trees do more than beautify your yard—they can help lower your energy use. By providing shade during warmer months, trees can reduce the amount of heat that enters your home, easing the workload on your cooling system and potentially lowering your electric bill. In addition, trees contribute to cleaner air, improved property value, and a stronger, more resilient community canopy.
Member-Only Benefits
As part of this partnership, cooperative members can purchase select trees for just $25 each. Quantities are limited, so early participation is encouraged. Once you purchase your tree, you can use the Arbor Day Foundation’s exclusive software to review planting tips, identify the best location on your property for your tree, and see your potential energy savings.
Important Dates
Members can conveniently reserve their trees online, then pick them up on Oct. 3 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m at the co-op’s Newport office located at 1300 Highway 24.
When you pick up your tree, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with Master Gardeners, who can offer guidance on proper planting, placement, and care to help your tree thrive for years to come.
