2026 Youth Tour Participants Selected

Each summer, Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative (CCEC) joins electric cooperatives across the country to invest in the next generation of leaders through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. This nationally recognized program selects approximately 1,800 outstanding high school students to participate in an immersive educational experience in Washington, D.C.

Youth Tour LogoDuring the weeklong trip, student delegates explore the nation’s capital, gain a deeper understanding of American history and government, and learn how electric cooperatives operate to serve their communities. Participants also have the opportunity to meet with members of Congress and discuss issues that matter to North Carolina and rural communities, while building lasting connections with students from across the country.

This year CCEC has selected Jackson Sulzen and Hayes Monson to represent the cooperative at the 2026 National Rural Electric Youth Tour. Jackson is a 10th grader and Hayes is an 11th grader; both attend Croatan High School. While there were many qualified applicants, Jackson and Timothy’s outstanding school and community involvement, and stellar academic records made them ideal choices for this enriching experience.

“Youth Tour is one of the most meaningful ways we invest in the future of our communities,” said CCEC Communications Director Melissa Glenn. “By giving students the opportunity to see our nation’s democratic process firsthand and learn about the cooperative business model, we are helping prepare informed, engaged leaders who will shape local communities for years to come.”

In addition to their experience in Washington, D.C., Youth Tour participants are eligible to apply for college scholarships available exclusively to Youth Tour participants, providing added long-term value beyond the trip itself.

Applications for the 2027 National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour will open in August.
