Each year,
Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative awards scholarships to
deserving students whose primary residence is in Carteret-Craven
Electric Cooperative's service area. A $4000 scholarship is given
to a senior each year at West Carteret High School, Croatan High School, East Carteret High School and
Havelock High School.
A fifth scholarship is awarded to the next highest ranked
student.
The
student receives $1000 each year for four consecutive years as
long as he or she maintains a 2.5 grade point average. Students
must be accepted at an accredited 4-year college or university or
community college program. They may not be a close relative of a
Carteret-Craven employee or director -- close relative being a
spouse, child, grandchild, great-grandchild, brother, sister,
aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, by blood or by adoption, or in-law
of the employee or director.
Applications may be picked up at the school counselor's office at
West Carteret, East Carteret and Havelock High Schools or at any
of the three offices of Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative --
Salter Path, Havelock or Highway 24 in Newport.
Criteria for selection is 50% need, 25%
academic achievement (transcripts, SAT score, Grade Point Average)
and 25% extracurricular activity (clubs, sports, projects,
community, church). Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative will rule
on eligibility of each applicant.
All
eligible applicants will then be given to judges. Judges will be
selected by Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative. All applicants
will be considered on the stated criteria regardless of race, age,
