Coastal Community Action & Twin Rivers Opportunities Weatherization Assistance Programs

It's all over the news; with the passage of the federal stimulus bill there's money available to help many Americans weatherize homes and make energy efficiency improvements.

With the federal economic stimulus package, additional funding has been provided to the Weatherization Assistance Program for those with modest incomes to help them find ways to save energy and lower their energy bills.

The stimulus package raises eligibility from 150 percent to 200 percent of the federal poverty level – to $21,660 for a single-person household and $44,100 for a family of four.

Through the program you receive a professional energy consultation and upgrades like proper insulation for your walls, floors and attic, and possible replacement or repair of malfunctioning heating or cooling systems.

Once submitted, your application, along with others, will be reviewed and assessed. This process may take several months. Since funding is limited, the agencies may not be able to fulfill all weatherization requests.

Applications are available from the two agencies as well as from Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative’s offices in Havelock, Newport and Harkers Island.
